There is not any other brand or designer who does sexy as successfully as LaQuan Smith. Time and time again, Smith selects high end fabrics and creates works of art that flawlessly fits the female silhouette. The Spring 2020 Ready-to-Wear collection shown at New York Fashion Week was no exception and further cemented the genius that is LaQuan Smith – the man and the brand.
The models wore garments that exude confidence, sex appeal, and audacity. A sheer, latex, leopard-print dress was the first look of the night. It was clear that Western glamour was the theme for the runway show as the thong-baring dress was accompanied by a ten gallon hat with an embellished trim. A strapless version of this dress immediately followed, as well as a French cut bodysuit in the same print.
Patterns transitioned to snakeskin with a mini dress that focuses on the décolletage. A burnt orange hue was shown on biker shorts and high-waisted track pants. Worn with these pants was a cropped tee that read “LaQuan Smith Hoedown.” Another statement tee displayed “I will not, not be rich,” a quote from the infamous Renata Klein of HBO’s Big Little Lies. This unapologetic and determined quote seamlessly tied into the show’s theme. Before the show wrapped, Smith gave us the opportunity to feast our eyes on a fringed bodysuit, chainmail co-ords, and plush cowhide in the form of mini skirts, chaps, and a jacket.
